Adelaide, Australia - The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia made its debut at The Bend Motorsport Park last weekend, and it was an event to remember for Dan Wells and Oscar Lee. The duo dominated the Pro-Am class, winning both races and securing an overall podium in race one.
The weekend started well, with Dan setting the fastest lap time in free practice, even with the limited running to give Oscar as many laps of the challenging 5.08km circuit as possible. Qualifying was not without its issues, where Dan lost the chance for overall pole position with traffic in the middle sector. However, Oscar duly followed up in Q2 by taking class pole and 8th overall.
They continued their impressive form in the first race, with Wells securing the fastest lap time and leading his team to victory battling past Chris Van der Drift on lap 4, before going on to have a titanic battle with local Jackson Walls which kept going all the way to the pit stops where Oscar then finished the job on his stint. The duo repeated their success in the second race, securing another win and cementing their position as the team to beat in the Pro-Am class.
Speaking after the race, Dan Wells said: "It's been an incredible weekend for us. The car felt amazing, and we were able to put in some really fast lap times. We're thrilled to have won both races and to have secured a double victory for the weekend. I’d like to thanks Prosperity Investment Management for their support, Oscar for putting in some great drives, and also the whole team who helped make this possible."
Oscar Lee added: "Dan drove brilliantly, and the team did an excellent job throughout the weekend. We're really pleased with how everything came together, and I’m really looking forward to one of my favourite circuits - Fuji, next time out."

12 May 2023 – Hong Kong-based British racing driver Dan Wells and his co-driver Oscar Lee clinched two sensational class victories including a first overall victory in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia race held at the Sepang Circuit last weekend. The duo expertly navigated the 5.54km track and emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle against a strong field of competitors.
Wells, who hails from Salisbury in England, and Lee, from Taiwan, displayed their exceptional teamwork and driving skills during the race, which saw them unleash the raw power of their Lamborghini race car and showcase their ability to push the vehicle to its limits.
The victory was a remarkable achievement for the young duo, who had to contend with challenging weather conditions at the unforgiving circuit. Wells and Lee kept their cool and expertly steered their way to the front of the pack, finishing ahead of their closest competitors by an impressive margin throughout the weekend.
Wells took overall and Pro-Am pole in Q1, while Oscar backed up his step forward with a P3 overall and Pro-Am pole in Q2.
In race one, Wells led the field away on a safety car start due to heavy rain and led his entire stint on slick tyres before handing the car to Oscar who brought the car home 4th overall and 1st in class.
In race two, Oscar had a slightly trickier start to his race, but managed to get his head down to hand the car to Dan in a good position, where he duly went on to overtake the competition and win the race overall.
Speaking after the race, Wells and Lee expressed their delight at their success, thanking their team and sponsors Prosperity Investment Management for their support and dedication. The pair also praised the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia series and organisers TopSpeed for giving them the opportunity to showcase their talent on a global stage.
The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Series has been a breeding ground for some of the world's most talented young drivers, providing a platform for them to hone their skills and compete in some of the most thrilling and exciting races anywhere in the world.
Wells and Lee are next in action at The Bend Circuit in Adelaide, Australia on June 9-11.
10 October 2022
10 October 2022 – Dan Wells and Oscar Lee continued their Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season with a 4th and 9th in the competitive Pro-Am class at the famous F1 venue.
Free practice 1 was affected by numerous red flags as 44 drivers tried to familiarise themselves with the twists and turns of the Spanish circuit. FP2 saw slightly better driving standards, and Lee completed most of the running to familiarize himself with the technical Formula One circuit.
Qualifying took place early on Saturday morning, and Oscar took the duties as the first qualifying driver. The 20-minute session saw Oscar post a lap time good enough for P13 overall, and 7th in class - a great job by the Taiwanese-American driver. Wells was set for a strong qualifying, but catching traffic on his two best laps didn’t help and he finished the session 7th and 3rd in class - just a mere tenth and a half from being 3rd overall. The duo quickly put this disappointment behind them, and focused on race one on Saturday afternoon.
Oscar started well from the right side of the grid, immediately overtaking a professional driver through turn 3 on the opening lap. 2 laps later and the pro punted Oscar into a spin at turn 5 which saw him drop to the back of the field. Oscar quickly made a determined charge through the field before handing over the Prosperity Investment Management-backed car to Dan. Dan immediately made moves forwards but numerous safety cars meant there was only a few laps of possible racing, but the British driver managed to climb to 4th in class in the final corner even with rear suspension damage from another competitor.
The Sunday morning race would be a similar story - Wells managed a good start to overtake pro runner Max Weering but the safety car once again neutralised the race. Dan stayed out for his full stint, and brought the car in with the overall lead as others had already made their stop. Oscar exited the pits P1 in class, but a troublesome outlap saw him drop to 3rd. Once again there was more safety cars, but the duo were set to come home in 4th in class until a pro driver hit Oscar into the wall just two corners from home - which saw them classifed as 9th in class.
Wells commented, “This hasn’t been quite the weekend we wanted in terms of results, but the team have been great all weekend and Oscar did a great job to make his best practice and qualifying performances to date. It’s all to play for as we go into Portimao for the final round, especially with the World Final on the back of it, so our focus turns to making sure we end the year on a high.”
Wells and Lee now lie 2nd in the Championship and will head into the final round on November 4-5 at the Algarve Circuit in Portimao.
Wells competed in the 2022 Modena Cento Ore rally as co-driver in Italy alongside driver Philip Kadoorie.
Regrettably it was a short trip - the 4 day rally through Italy in the Lancia Stratos turned into just a day and a bit as it was the duo suffered reliability issues on the second morning.
At the end of the first day they were just 3s down on the leaders, sitting in P2 and having won stage 2 by a decent margin of 5s.
Dan is now working hard preparing for his next race in Portimao at the end of the month.
JORDAN SHERRATT AND GIANFRANCO GIGLIOLI REPRESENTED THE SANT’AGATA BOLOGNESE BRAND IN THE SRO GTWC ESPORTS SPRINT EUROPE PRO CLASS’S THIRD ROUND IN GERMANY.
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 9 June 2022 - Automobili Lamborghini Esports Team drivers Jordan Sherratt and Gianfranco Giglioli competed in the third round of the SRO Esports GT Europe Championship, taking place at the Nürburgring as a late afternoon race on the evening of June 9th.
Pre-event testing had shown that this event would be a bit more of a struggle for the Italian marque, especially once the balance of performance was changed so that competitors had lighter cars by 5kg. Nevertheless, the Squadra Corse-backed team pushed on to try and secure points for the third consecutive race.
Qualifying started with good optimism as with the first flying laps complete, Jordan Sherratt took P2 with teammate Gianfranco Giglioli showing improved pace as well as he sat just outside the Top 10. As the track improved all that the drivers needed was a clean run without traffic, and Jordan managed to deliver a sensational lap to lap within 0.15s of pole position, and take P4 in the Pro class. Meanwhile, Gianfranco was within 0.3s of his teammate, which would see him line up in P19.
As the lights went out for the 60-minute race into the early evening, Jordan made a good start on the run down to turn one. A very tight couple of corners ensued, with some minor contact, and the South African driver came around the first lap in P5 in the Pro class. Gianfranco on the other hand was somewhat less fortunate - a computer technical issue for a rival behind him meant he was crashed into heavily from behind, and meant that the remaining time in the 1 hour race would be impossible from which to recover.
With the pit window opened 15 minutes into the race, Jordan stayed out setting competitive laps in a close train of cars which went from the leader throughout the top 10. With the circuit layout not favouring the Lamboghini in the Assetto Corsa Competizione platform, it was a case of trying to eek out enough time while other drivers were battling. An overly aggressive move from BMW driver Arthur Kammerer at turn one saw Jordan pick up some damage, for which Arthur would be hit with a 5s penalty.
Jordan boxed just before the pit window closed at the 45-minute mark, but ultimately just lost out to two rivals by 1.4s out of the pits. Close racing ensued, with Jordan trying to stay within the 5s window of Kammerer’s BMW to gain an extra position, but Sherratt just missed out by less than a tenth of a second at the flag. The South African driver finished the race P8 in the Pro class, which sees him sit 8th in the drivers championship. Gianfranco completed the race in 20th position and last of the runners after the unfortunate early damage due to no fault of his own.
Jordan, driver of car #63 commented, “I knew that this was going to be difficult race - to be honest I think we ‘overperformed’ a bit in qualifying. Even so, I think we got the most out of what we had and made the right call with the strategy but definitely we need to look into certain things to help us be more competitive.”
Gianfranco, driver of car #97 shared “This race was a real shame. I felt like my qualifying was an improvement in this event, and was hopeful for a strong race but it was quite unlucky to get hit by another car, especially when it wasn’t that driver’s fault as it was due to a computer issue. Even so, I will continue working hard to close the gap and get into the points again like I was in Misano.”
Team Principal of Automobili Lamborghini Esports Dan Wells shared his thoughts on the latest event: “We knew that this event was going to be a slightly more difficult affair, but even so I think Jordan can be very happy with his performance, especially with a very special qualifying lap to fly the flag for the Lamborghini brand nicely. Gian was exceptionally unlucky but we will keep working to assist both drivers in their quest for bigger points. Now, our full attention turns to the Spa 24 hours in the next round of the IGTCE.”
The next round of the SRO Esports GT Europe takes place in Hungaroring on July 6th. Before then, the team will be in action for the second round of the SRO Esports Intercontinental GT Challenge at the Spa 24 hours on June 18th.
6 June 2022 – Dan Wells and Oscar Lee continued their strong start to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe season with a 1st and 2nd place in the competitive Pro-Am class at the 5.84km circuit in the South of France.
Free practice 1 was a wash out, and given the weather for the rest of the weekend was forecast to be dry and hot, car #51 sat out the morning session. FP2 took place in much better conditions, and Lee completed most of the running to familiarize himself with the technical Formula One circuit.
Qualifying took place early on Saturday morning, and Oscar took the duties as the first qualifying driver. The 20-minute session saw Oscar post a lap time good enough for P13 overall, and 3rd in class - a great job by the Taiwanese-American driver. Wells was confident of a great result in qualifying, but it wasn’t meant to be as a technical issue meant he was unable to set a lap time and would be resigned to the back of the grid for Sunday’s race for which Wells would start. The duo quickly put this disappointment behind them, and focused on race one on Saturday afternoon.
Oscar started well from the left side of the grid in the baking hot sun, with temperatures reaching 32 degrees Celsius, immediately overtaking his competitor in class to run P2 in Pro-Am throughout his stint. He made good progress throughout, and after an issue for the leader, ran P1 in class until his pitstop to hand the Prosperity Investment Management-backed car over to Wells. Dan immediately rose up the overall order while maintaining the hard earned Pro-Am lead that Oscar had fought to earn, until trouble struck with 6 laps remaining which meant that his engine power was compromised. A nervy 15 minutes ensued, which saw Dan take the class win by just 2s, to the elation of his REXAL FFF Racing team.
The Sunday morning race would be a lot tougher than the previous day. Starting from 37th and last, Wells had the mammoth task to try and make up the positions as quickly as possible to try and salvage a result after the technical issue in qualifying. Dan didn’t waste any time, immediately scything his way past 14 cars in just 3 corners, before a safety car was called. Thankfully, it was a short caution period and Wells was able to continue his battle up the order. Overtaking cars lap after lap, he managed to fight his way into the top 8 by the end of his stint, before handing over to Oscar to continue the recovery effort. Lee put in his best drive in Super Trofeo to date to continue to drive up the order, overtaking all the way to the front to take P2 in class by just over a tenth of a second.
Wells commented, “It’s been quite an amazing but challenging weekend. Getting the win yesterday with the issues we had at the end of the race was amazing, but the Sunday event was really something special. I was delighted with my run through the field, but to get out the car and witness the drive that Oscar put in to bring us all the way up to 2nd in class, and 5th overall, from the very back of the grid - was exceptionally special and is a testament to the hard work he has put in to this event. A big thanks to REXAL FFF Racing for their tiring work in hot conditions this weekend, and also to our partners Prosperity Investment Management for their support.”
Wells and Lee now lie just two points behind the leaders in the Pro-Am standings, with the next event taking place at the team’s home track - Misano World Circuit, on July 1-3.
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 22 May 2022 - Automobili Lamborghini Esports Team drivers Jordan Sherratt, Giorgio Simonini and Gianfranco Giglioli took a lights to flag victory in the opening round of the SRO Intercontinental GT Challenge Endurance Esports Championship, taking place at Bathurst for the challenging 12 hour race.
Preparation for the event was meticulous with the team working with Squadra Corse staff to hone their package for the season opener where Giorgio Simonini made his race debut with the official Lamborghini Esports team. All three drivers fine-tuned the GT3 machine and came into the event confident that they could achieve a top result.
Qualifying took place with 47 cars on the challenging Australian circuit and working together with his Squadra Corse engineer to find the right gaps on track, Sherratt took a stunning pole position for the nascent Lamborghini Esports team with a time of 1.59.875.
As the lights went out at 5am virtual time, Giorgio Simonini made a perfect start to his factory Lamborghini Esports career, leading the entirety of his mammoth triple stint where he built up a gap of 25s to the 2nd placed BMW. Gianfranco Giglioli then made a clean and competitive double stint where the gap was reduced to 9s by the end of hour 5. Sherratt made his first appearance in the race in the 6th hour where he completed a super double stint to stretch out the gap to 26s once again – the largest margin the Sant’Agata had enjoyed thus far. Gianfranco then put in his best drive yet with the Lamborghini team to maintain a safe gap to the 2nd placed car to complete 4 hours of driving in the race.
With the BMW competition opting to go shorter on fuel trying to put pressure on the #63 car, the team, led by Team Principal Dan Wells with Brendon Leitch as race engineer, kept to their race strategy of minimising time in the pitlane which meant that after a strong stint in the 10th hour by Giorgio, it was left to Jordan to do a full hour before a ‘splash and dash’ in the final 20 minutes where he brought the car home to win the special endurance event, and Lamborghini’s first as a factory Esports squad.
Jordan commented, “I felt relatively confident coming into the weekend, but you never know how things are going to work out. Especially at Mount Panorama - which is such a difficult circuit, with a lot of walls very close by, but I’m fortunate to say we had a near perfect race. Taking the pole position was very special, but I had a lot of emotion at the end of the 12 hours! I hope we can continue this throughout the championship, and I’d like to thank all the team for their hard work to make this possible”.
Giorgio continued “I was so pleased to keep the car in the lead for the first stint, building up a 3s gap so I felt confident to start to push on and extend the gap. The car was a joy to drive and I’m just so glad that everything came together for us today. We had a few nervy moments with traffic and blue flags, but thankfully we were lucky and came away with this strong result.”
Gianfranco echoed “I did a lot of preparation coming into this event - sharing the car with Jordan and Giorgio was such a pleasure and I would like to thank the whole team for their support in the run up to the event to help me find my pace, I’m glad I did what I needed to do, as did everyone else, and that we got to enjoy the victory in our first race together!”
Team Principal of Automobili Lamborghini Esports Dan Wells shared his thoughts on the IGTCE season opener: “This was a great day for what is still a very new team. We devised a strategy which played to our strengths, and thankfully everyone executed their roles perfectly on the day. To take Lamborghini’s first Esports win as an official team is very special, especially considering this is just the third race for the team, and the season opener for the SRO Endurance category. I’d like to thank everybody for their hard work to achieve this result and we are looking forward to the coming races.”
The next round of the SRO IGTCE Championship takes place in at Spa Francorchamps for the iconic 24-hour race on June 18th. Before then, the team will be in action for the second round of the SRO Esports Europe Sprint series at Nürburgring on June 8th.
