From Track to Business.
Dan’s career was built in an environment where results are measurable, and excuses don’t survive.
Competing at a championship level shaped how he leads, decides, and builds - principles now applied beyond the track.
Performance over perception.
Systems beat talent.
Accountability creates freedom.
Long-term thinking wins championships.
Dan Wells is a championship-winning racing driver and entrepreneur whose career has been shaped by competing, and succeeding, in environments where opportunity was earned rather than given.
Born in Southampton in May 1991 and raised in Salisbury in the south of England, Dan grew up in a family that ran a roadside restaurant. From the age of eleven, he worked washing dishes, learning early lessons in responsibility, consistency, and work ethic. Around the same time, his interest in motorsport began. While many of his peers had access to karting programmes and regular track time, financial and practical limitations meant Dan’s path into racing would require patience and persistence.
His outlook changed significantly during his later school years. Initially unfocused, Dan applied himself with discipline and intent, finishing top of his year academically. It was a defining moment that shaped his belief that focus and effort could bridge gaps in experience and resources.
Dan went on to study economics and politics, where his interest in Formula One intensified. Alongside his studies, he began karting competitively and quickly proved his potential by outperforming drivers with far greater experience. That success prompted a decisive choice. Dan withdrew from his university place and committed fully to pursuing a professional racing career.
Early progress followed. A fastest lap in his first senior kart race led to race wins in Formula Ford 1600 and progression into Formula Renault UK with support from the Racing Steps Foundation. In 2011, he finished second in the Formula Renault Finals Series, one of the most competitive winter championships, placing ahead of several drivers who would later reach Formula One.
When funding opportunities in Europe became limited, Dan made a defining decision. With minimal financial backing and no established base in Asia, he relocated to Hong Kong to continue his career independently.
“I am a great believer in jumping out of the airplane and building a parachute on the way down.”
Dan became the first racing driver to successfully use crowdfunding as a primary funding strategy, raising over €15,000 through his “Twitter Powered Racing Driver” campaign. That initiative led to an opportunity with KCMG in Asia, where he signed to compete in the Formula Pilota China Series without guaranteed funding and under immediate pressure to deliver results.
He did.
Since moving to Asia, Dan has won races in every championship he has competed in, stood on the podium at the Macau Grand Prix, and founded Dan Wells & Investors Ltd to manage his commercial interests, investments, and sponsorships. In 2015, he became Asian Formula Renault Champion, securing ten victories and earning a prize test in the World Series by Renault 3.5, a category just below Formula One.
That season marked a significant milestone. Alongside his single-seater success, Dan competed in GT machinery with KCMG in the Asian Le Mans Series, demonstrating versatility across disciplines.
From 2016 onwards, Dan expanded his career across touring cars, GT racing, prototypes, and endurance events. He became the first non-Chinese driver selected by the Changan Ford Racing Team in the Chinese Touring Car Championship, took pole position on debut, and contributed to Ford securing the Manufacturers’ Championship. He has since competed across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, achieving victories and podium finishes in multiple international series.
Career highlights include success in Asian Formula Renault, FIA Chinese F4, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia and Europe, the Asian Le Mans Series, and GT4 endurance racing, including class wins at Sepang and a Lamborghini Super Trofeo World Finals race victory.
Today, Dan continues to compete at a championship level while also operating as an entrepreneur and advisor within performance-driven ventures across motorsport and related industries. Across racing and business, the standard remains the same: preparation, execution, and performance under pressure.
